Katy Perry and Dolly Parton teamed up for an American Country Music Awards performance Sunday night, where they sang “Coat of Many Colors” and “Jolene,” and wrapped up with the crowd-pleasing “9 to 5.”
As someone who will always be down to (attempt to) sober-sing “Jolene” at karaoke night, I appreciate this selection of tunes. But perhaps what’s best is Katy’s entire look — because she’s basically just going for a Dolly Parton imitation, while standing next to Dolly Parton, singing Dolly Parton originals. Overload? Perhaps. But when it comes to Dolly, over-the-top style is par for the course.
The fringe and cow-print belt are certainly Dolly chic, but Katy’s added her own touch with those fishnets. Look to K.P.’s right, and the real Dolly’s wearing her own coat of many sequin-encrusted colors. Dolly couture never fails to entertain.
