All over New York City, people in asymmetrical pleated garments are canceling their weekend brunch plans because their bank accounts are empty. Followers of the Comme des Garçons cult have been waiting three years since the brand’s last sale, and Super-Market-Market 2016 (which runs through Sunday) offers splurges marked as much as 70 percent off.
Shoppers lined up outside the huge space in Soho in hopes of getting their hands on archival pieces from Junya Watanabe, Noir, and other Dover Street Market designers ranging from Miu Miu to Christopher Kane at up to 80 percent off. They were there to peacock as well as shop, whether they’d paired Céline with a fresh take on the Canadian tuxedo or styled a cherry-printed beanie with a wool cardigan.
