In a newly restored room at the Armory on Park Avenue, models strutted around in lingerie-inspired outfits — bustiers with pantsuits, balconette bras and pencil skirts, floor-length teal robes — to celebrate the first La Perla collection under a new creative director, Pedro Lourenço.

The dinner with Vogue not only rang in the Lourenço’s debut, but also the expansion of the brand into loungewear and ready-to-wear. The Brazilian-born designer told the Cut that his new vision for the brand is “all about merging the past of La Perla, which is very feminine, with something that is very modern that connects to the youth of today — something young but still modern and clean and polished.”

Lourenço joined Vogue and a slew of models and friends for dinner at the Armory. In a sea of crop tops and pasties, we asked them which piece of lingerie every woman should have.

Pedro Lourenço, creative director, La Perla: A bandeau, because it’s something you can wear in and out. I also like the balconcino (balconette bra) if it’s done in a modern way, I think it’s very interesting.

Kate Foley, stylist: I mean, I would say a good bra to be honest. I’m sure there’s tons of other stuff that I’m too lazy to consider for myself. To me the most important thing is that something is beautiful and it fits well. There’s nothing more beautiful than a really, really well-made bra that is comfortable and fits well.

Eliza Cummings, model: For me it’s not about the lingerie, it’s about the body. There are suspenders and stuff you can use to kink it up a bit, so I’d say go for naughty rather than nice because nice you can get anywhere.

Carmela Boccomino, global PR manager, La Perla: A bustier. Every woman should have a bustier. It’s so linked to the purest idea of femininity. It is one of the first pieces that every expert learns to do and to build because it’s not easy to build. It gives you a beautiful shape and when you wear a bustier, you can feel your femininity in the purest way. It’s special.
