It’s been a rough week for shorts wearers.

Beijing’s Civil Affairs Bureau has announced a new rule that states that couples cannot obtain a marriage license if they come wearing casual clothing, especially shorts.

“It is not unusual to see couples registering in shorts and slippers. It shows their carelessness and disrespect for marriage,” says the bureau’s marriage registration director, Han Mingxi. “From one glance you can see that marriage registration is being treated as a casual affair, and this is prone to many problems.”
