With her trademark sun-kissed tresses and an enviable wardrobe of breezy frocks and nifty accessories, Kaitlin Keegan of Blonde Expeditions is perpetually prepared for the summer and the adventures that go hand-in-hand. From top warm-weather activities to a clever beauty routine, Keegan regaled us with her favorites for the season.
1. Which products are key to your summer beauty regimen?
In the summer I tend to stick to a lighter, more laid-back makeup routine — I’m all about the “less is more” philosophy for makeup during the summer. I want the products I’m using to enhance what I already have, and look natural.
Clinique’s Turnaround Daytime Revitalizing Moisturizer is my go-to warmer weather base. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, evens out my skin tone, and creates a beautiful golden glow underneath my tinted moisturizer. It gives me a wide-awake, super refreshed look. On the weekends I use only this, and just apply a few dabs of concealer where I need it.
For summer date nights I love using The Estée Edit, a fun two-in-one illuminating moisturizer and highlighter. I use the highlighter under the product’s cap on the top of my cheekbones and Cupid’s bow, and on the tops of my shoulders to lend a subtle hint of shimmer. I’ve also mixed the lotion with my foundation for a “no makeup” makeup look.
2. What’s your style philosophy when it comes to summer daytime fashion? Tell us your tried-and-true summer wardrobe staples.
In the summer, daytime fashion for me is all about ease. From an easy throw-on-and-go shift dress, to a pretty white top and jeans, I want pieces that I can be comfortable all day in. My Madewell fedora is one of my favorites — it adds an extra layer of protection against the sun as well as a touch of chic and whimsy. When summer rolls around, I always bring out my straw tote that I picked up in Aruba and use that instead of a purse; it holds everything and goes with everything.
3. What are your favorite summer day activities?
I love to grab a book or my journal and head to a local park. It only takes 30 minutes to reach Penn Station by train from where I live, so Central Park has become one of my favorites. It’s so relaxing to sit and read on a bench on a sunny day; I often lose track of time on the weekends and end up picking up dinner from one of the amazing food trucks nearby.
Speaking of food, there’s something so quintessentially summery about eating a meal outside — enjoying an alfresco dinner while it’s still light out is definitely one of my favorite things to do on a relaxed weekday or on the weekend.
