A 13-year-old girl who was traveling from Dallas, Texas, to Portland, Oregon, on American Airlines as an unaccompanied minor was recently subjected to a terrible ordeal by her seatmate.
The Washington Post reports that Chad Cameron Camp, 26, chose to sit next to her even though he was in middle seat and the plane had plenty of alternate seating options. He declined an offer to move; 30 minutes later, a flight attendant who appeared for drink service noticed the man’s hand on the 13-year-old’s crotch. There was “a single tear coming down the victim’s cheek.”
Camp and the girl were separated, and when the plane landed, Camp was arrested for abusive sexual conduct.
An American Airlines spokesperson told CNN, “American cares deeply about our young passengers and is committed to providing a safe and pleasant travel experience for them. We take these matters very seriously and have cooperated fully and immediately with law enforcement officials in their investigation of the suspect.”
But the minor’s attorney, Brent Goodfellow, told the Post that his clients are going to sue the airline. “This was 30 minutes of hell for this young lady,” he said. “If I have my tray table down or my seat back two inches during the improper time, those guys are going to be on me immediately. This girl got abused for 30 minutes and no one was to be found.”
