It seems like just yesterday that we were all collectively celebrating the fact that abolitionist and American hero Harriet Tubman would replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. But celebrations don’t last forever and Republican Congressman Steve King is vying hard for the role of Most Inane Wet Blanket Ever by proposing legislation that would block the change in our currency. For real?
The reason behind King’s legislation is still unclear, CNN reports, though the Huffington Post says he’s hoping his proposal will be attached to a larger bill that would look at the Treasury’s overall funding and budget. The Iowa congressman might sound familiar to you as the man who had this reprehensible comment on immigration: “For every [immigrant] who’s a valedictorian, there’s another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they’re hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert. Those people would be legalized with the same act.”
King joins Donald Trump in his pro-Jackson stance. Fun party of two!
