The Republican National Convention kicks off in Cleveland on Monday, and Republicans and journalists have already descended upon the Cleve for what is sure to be a standout hot mess in this hot mess of an election cycle. And even the most minute details of the convention showcase just how low the rhetoric of this race can get.
Take these pins that journalist Jamil Smith posted to Instagram on Sunday night: Along with the requisite Trump 2016 and “Bomb the Hell Out of ISIS” pins (sure to pair nicely with an NRA farmers’-market tote bag) are the transparently sexist anti-Hillary pins that reduce her — literally — to a pile of meat. The “KFC Hillary Special,” advertises “2 Fat Thighs, 2 Small Breasts … Left Wing.” Another one features a photo of Clinton with the slogan “Life’s a Bitch, Don’t Vote for One.”
That’s not to say that the merchandise discounts women entirely — there is, after all, a “Hot Chicks for Trump” option.
