Katie Ledecky, our Olympic hero, was one of the many women who dominated in Rio, breaking her own world records in the women’s 800-meter and 400-meter freestyle events, and becoming just the second woman in history to win three gold medals in individual freestyle events at one Olympic Games.
She also won a gold in the women’s 4x200-meter freestyle relay and a silver in the women’s 4x100-meter relay, bringing her total medal count to five: something Washington Nationals player Bryce Harper was painfully aware of as he watched Ledecky throw the first pitch at Nationals Park Wednesday night.
It took her a full 30 seconds to remove the medals, and then to fire a perfect pitch into catcher Shawn Kelley’s glove. Meanwhile, Harper stood next to her imitating a medal rack. Because what are men if not muscles to hold your hard-won trophies?
