Nail-Salon Owner Saves the Day by Shoving Robber’s Gun Back Down His Pants

Annie Dheng.

On Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m., disaster struck Peony Nails Spa in Greenwich Village, New York. The salon was filled with workers, customers, and two children when a man walked in and attempted to rob owner Annie Dheng at gunpoint. (To be clear, he was after her money, and not her Essie nail polish like other local thieves.)

Dheng — who is 5’4” and 120 pounds, compared to the 5’11” and 160 pound suspect — had noticed a gun in his waistband, so when he pulled it out on her, she pushed him, then pushed the gun straight back into his pants. He ran away, and she called the cops, then resumed working. According to the Post, nobody else in the salon realized that they were getting robbed — even Dheng’s 10-year-old daughter, Jasmine, just thought the kerfuffle was over a customer forgetting to pay.

A reporter from WABC7 asked Dheng if she’d been scared, to which she replied, laughing, “No, I wasn’t scared.”
