A public service announcement

Malia Obama Would Like to Remind Everyone That Smoking Kills

Malia Obama was on double duty over the weekend at the Made in America Festival. The eldest of the Obama daughters (and America’s coolest teen) showed up ready to enjoy the different musical acts while wearing a shirt that doubled as public service announcement: “Smoking kills.”

Her shirt/PSA was simple and to the point. The basic, white, short-sleeved tee with black piping had the declarative message, “Smoking kills,” and nothing else. Oh, and by the looks of it, said message was apparently handwritten, so you know it’s personal. She topped off her total norm-core transformation with a Harvard baseball cap (school pride), khaki shorts, and a brown belt.

But the question remains: does the tee mean literally what it says? Was this done on a dare? Is the Truth Campaign behind this? Was Malia thinking about her dad’s old, perilous smoking habits? Or did Michelle Obama make Malia wear the shirt after she was caught smoking something at one of her favorite festivals, Lollapalooza?

No matter! The Harvard-bound teen still got to kick it with Beyoncé in the crowd, while Sasha watched from atop someone’s shoulders. That’s a win on any day.
