election 2016

There’s No Excuse for Not Registering to Vote Because #OurVoteCounts

In a new initiative to register 100,000 women to vote, the Cut is launching the campaign #OurVoteCounts today with the political nonprofit Rock the Vote and over 50 women’s media brands, including Essence, Glamour, Jezebel, TheSkimm, and Into the Gloss. Step one: Go to rtvote.com/thecut and pick your state. Step two: Fill out the form. It takes less than two minutes to register to vote.

Why? Rebecca Traister said it before: The single American woman is the most powerful voter in this election. It is, of course, a pivotal election for all women, too: According to the Center for American Women and Politics, only 64 percent of eligible women voted in the 2012 presidential election; among 18- to 24-year-olds, the showing was even lower at 45 percent.

This year, we’re hoping it will be different. Register at rtvote.com/thecut and share the hashtag #OurVoteCounts.
