A higher percentage of American women who do not already have children expect to sometime in the future, according to new survey data just released by the Centers for Disease Control.
According to the survey, 50 percent of American women between the ages of 15 and 44 expect to have a child at some point in the future. This number has been rising for a decade, and was at 46 percent in 2002. Most women who expect to have children expect to have two, and most women surveyed who already had two or more said they didn’t expect to have more kids.
The CDC says that these numbers are correlated to sexual activity, access to contraception, and fertility. Over the past decade, great strides in procedures like IVF have possibly led more women to be optimistic about their reproductive futures.
