Women Are Dressing Up to Vote and It’s Very Stylish

You won’t need to wonder who’s #WithHer at the polls today. Women across the country are literally wearing their support for Hillary Clinton, dressing up in pantsuits, Rosie the Riveter-inspired outfits, and various shades of white (an homage to women’s suffrage) to cast their votes. The pantsuit in particular demonstrates a trend seen throughout this election cycle, one where women reclaim negative comments toward Clinton and spin them into an empowering message. Case in point: In the now infamous Access Hollywood tape, Donald Trump said he could grab women “by the pussy.” The response from women? “Pussy Grabs Back” T-shirts. It was the same story when Trump called Clinton a “nasty woman” in the final debate — now, the phrase is a badge of honor, also slapped on shirts, mugs, and social-media profiles. And so while Clinton’s pantsuits have been a long-running fashion joke, women are having the emotional, inspiring, happy last laugh today, sporting the look with pride as they stand in line on city blocks and in suburban parking lots to cast their ballots for who could be the first woman president of the United States. Let’s take this in for a moment, shall we?
