Paul Ryan is a public servant, which means he — theoretically — is accountable to the public. We do pay his salary, after all! So today, Lena Dunham decided to flex her accountability muscle and give Speaker Ryan a call to voice her concern about the recent appointment of Breitbart’s Steve Bannon as chief strategist and senior council to the future president, Donald Trump. Of course, Speaker Ryan didn’t answer the phone, so Dunham left Ryan a voice mail and posted a video of her making the call on Instagram. “I’m not sure you’re really going to listen to this,” Dunham says. “But I hope you do, because I want to let you know that as a woman, as a Jew, as a person who cares about other human beings, people of color, the idea of appointing an anti-Semitic white supremacist … ” That’s when the voice mail cuts her off, but we’re sure the very dignified and forthcoming Speaker Ryan has noted her concern and is prepared to take it straight to the Executive branch.
