Voters Still Aren’t Sure Where Donald Trump Stands on Abortion

Minus one memorable exchange during the third presidential debate, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton haven’t gone head-to-head on the issue of abortion. And as of Election Day, it seems voters were still unsure of the Republican candidate’s stance on the issue.

According to the Washington Post, abortion was the most-Googled issue on Election Day, and searches for “Trump on abortion” spiked more than 4,000 percent by late afternoon on November 8.

While Clinton has asserted time and time again that women should have the right to get an abortion, Trump has gone back and forth on the issue. Before 2011 he described himself as “pro-life,” but during the campaign — in an effort to mollify conservative Christians — he took several stances on abortion access over the course of just a few days.

But Trump clarified his position on abortion during the final debate. “If you go with what Hillary is saying, in the ninth month, you can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb of the mother just prior to the birth of the baby,” he said on national television. In other words, when it comes to abortion, he’s firmly in favor of ignorance.
