Last Tuesday, Jason Eric Eaton, 43, of Greensburg, Indiana, planned to propose to his girlfriend, 44-year-old Wendy Sabatini. Instead, police say, he killed her.
The Greensburg Daily News reports that while at Sabatini’s home, Eaton pulled out an engagement ring with the intention of asking her to marry him. She declined when she saw the ring and so, he said, he pulled out a gun from a nightstand and fatally shot her in the head.
He then reportedly went to a friend’s house where he admitted that he thought he killed Sabatini, saying that he “messed up.” The two then went to the police station, where Eaton confessed. Police are currently investigating Eaton’s intent and motives.
Sabatini is survived by two children, including 18-year-old Lake Sabatini, who was in the house at the time but did not realize what had happened to his mother (he thought she was at work) until police came to the door. He told Fox59, “I already knew that she was gonna say no … She just didn’t want to get married again. She was married before. She just didn’t want to go do that again.”
