Less than a month after turning the minimum age required to be a U.S. senator, Chelsea Manning has filed to run as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate in Maryland, according to federal election filings reviewed by the Washington Post.

As reported by the Post, Manning would be challenging incumbent Democrat Ben Cardin, who was first elected in 2007.

Update, January 14: Manning confirmed her run Sunday morning on Twitter with a video that outlines her commitment to challenging flawed existing systems.

“We need to stop expecting that our systems will fix themselves,” she says in a voiceover. “We need to challenge them at every level. We need to fix this. You’re damn right we got this.”
