Melania Trump Just Wants to ‘Read or Be Alone’

As Virginia Woolf once wrote, “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to endure a marriage to a philandering, narcissistic real estate mogul.” According to a new report in The New Yorker, which details Donald Trump’s alleged affair with former Playboy Bunny Karen McDougal in 2006, Trump told McDougal that Melania kept a separate bedroom in Trump Tower because “she liked her space to read or be alone.”

This corroborates claims journalist Michael Wolff made in his book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. According to Wolff, over the course of their 12-year marriage, Donald and Melania “spent relatively little time together. They could go days at a time without contact, even when they were both in Trump Tower.” (The Trump team has called Wolff’s book “fiction” and the president said it is “phony” and “full of lies.”)

It also confirms what we have long suspected, that there is nothing the First Lady loves more than gazing somberly into the distance and reflecting on the question, “What is she thinking?”
