The street-style peacocks had to brave a lot this past Fashion Week, including torrential downpours and freezing temperatures. But it proved that all you need to elevate your outfit is a killer coat and smart accessories — let them do the talking.
There were the gigantic puffer coats straight out of Balenciaga ads in a rainbow of colors. Absolute units, all of them. There were jackets with soft, neutral-colored fuzz that made the wearer look instantly like a huggable teddy bear. Giant, colorful furs from the likes of Saks Potts and House of Fluff kept each outfit colorful and interesting. When all else fails, there’s always the trench coat in rubber ducky yellow, in a rainbow of plaid, or in Burberry tartan.
This season was all about the extra pops that imbue an outfit with personality, like a quilted purse with five extra pockets. Bucket hats returned for another season, as did creatively worn fanny packs, while more intimidating hats, like berets, pageboy caps, and fedoras, became relatively accessible. Nineties sunglasses reigned supreme (you can thank Rihanna and Kanye). Major runway trends from last season resurfaced in street style — including head-to-toe red and transparent clothing and accessories. Perhaps next season, street-style pics will include a lot more food (specifically, bags of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos).
