People Are Accusing Taylor Swift of Copying a Perfume Ad

This weekend, famously awkward dancer Taylor Swift released the music video for her song “Delicate,” which features the singer escaping the confines of fame and embarking on a manic dancing spree through the streets of L.A. in a blue cocktail dress. And because it wouldn’t be a Taylor Swift release without a little bit of controversy, many people online have pointed out that the video looks remarkably similar to a legendary 2016 Kenzo perfume ad directed by Spike Jonze and starring Margaret Qualley.

While music videos are often a pastiche of influences, the similarities are hard to ignore: The gowns are similar, as is the premise and the setting and the frenetic facial contortions. Of course, there are also some major differences, primarily when it comes to the quality of dancing: Margaret Qualley is a classically trained ballerina, while Swift is mainly known for her weird arm-dancing at awards shows and something called the “dolphin body roll.”
