Met Gala 2018: See All the Dresses on the Red Carpet
On Monday night, every Met Gala 2018 dress on the red carpet was either holy or sacrilegious. Anna Wintour blessed celebrities and fashion designers with the Met Gala 2018 theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” High-profile guests including Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian West arrived at the Metropolitan Museum to see the fashion exhibition wearing their “Sunday best,” the dress code.
Of the best and worst looks, these were the highlights: Rihanna wore a pope hat! Greta Gerwig dressed like an actual nun. And you could barely see Frances McDormand under her wild headdress. Jasmine Sanders wore a incredible braid full of real red roses and there were crazy hair accessories, veils, and crowns. Jared Leto unsurprisingly dressed like Jesus, and Lena Waithe wore an amazing rainbow robe.
The exhibit opens to the public on Thursday: a papal dress is on loan from the Sistine Chapel, and designs by Donatella Versace, John Galliano, and Coco Chanel will be on view in three of the museum’s venues: the Anna Wintour Costume Center and the medieval galleries at the Met’s Fifth Avenue location, and the Cloisters uptown. Plus, anyone can create beauty looks inspired by the show, with Pat McGrath’s first-ever Met Makeup shop.
