Michael Hayes was a plus-sized person who wanted to become a yoga instructor — but he had trouble finding instructors who knew how to work with his body. So after years of study and trial-and-error, Hayes set up Buddha Body Yoga. In his classes, Hayes teaches a modified range of yoga poses that are designed to work with plus-sized bodies.

The Cut attended one of his sessions to find out how this dedicated yogi was able to carve out a safe space for plus-sized people in the yoga community.
