Spring Beauty Trends for People Who Usually Avoid Trends

First step: Head to Ulta Beauty.

Even with millions of online video tutorials designed to help you create any look you could imagine, experimenting with makeup can seem daunting. But this spring it’s time to put aside your beauty insecurities and try something new — even if you’ve been rocking no-makeup makeup for the past decade. Ulta Beauty’s 21 Days of Beauty event, lasting through April 6, is the perfect opportunity to pick up a new lipstick or palette to test out something fun for spring. We had Indya Brown, the Cut’s fashion partnerships editor, try out three trends using must-have products from the event.

Trend 1: Colorful Eyeshadow

There’s something about the winter thaw that makes you want to wear all the color, all the time. It’s ’90s in the best way but feels fresh for 2019. “I love to throw on a splash of colored liner in the spring, especially when I’m too busy to create a full-on blended eye look,” Indya says. “We used this amazing new Smashbox metallic eyeshadow palette to create an icy blue cat eye that played nicely against my brown eyes.” Here, her look is prepped with Urban Decay’s Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion (a half-off Daily Beauty Steal on March 22) and accentuated with a new product debuting during 21 Days of Beauty: Too Faced Better Than Sex Eyeliner.

Trend 2: Ultra-Glowing Skin

Who doesn’t want skin that glows like a disco ball? It just screams “I am a healthy person who treats their body like a temple.” Whether or not that’s true, it’s possible to fake a high-watt shimmer. Indya has naturally glowing skin but took it up a notch thanks to Too Faced Tutti Frutti You’re So Jelly Highlighter, layered with Smashbox Crystalized Highlighter. “I love the idea of using different shades of highlighter to create the ultimate glowy look,” says Indya.

Trend 3: Feathered Brows

Big brows have been stylish since around 2012 or so, but Indya is loyal to a thinner look. Lately, she’s been wanted to get the perfect statement brow that’s also defined. What else would she use to get a strong brow besides Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz (a 50-percent-off Daily Beauty Steal on March 23) and Benefit Cosmetics’ beloved brow gel (an April 6 Daily Beauty Steal)? “I usually wear my brows on the thinner side but have always wanted to experiment with a fluffier, feathered look,” says Indya. “It’s great for days where I want to amplify my natural makeup look without going too extreme.” A perfect look for spring. A perfect look for anytime. Perfect brows forever.
