It’s no secret that Meghan Markle loves Givenchy. She’s worn the brand for numerous public appearances, including to marry Prince Harry and to reveal her baby bump. Markle’s public persona — approachable yet elegant — is a perfect match for the sensibility of Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller, who has a knack for making women look relaxed and powerful at the same time.
Waight Keller became the first female artistic director at Givenchy when she replaced Riccardo Tisci in 2017, and she’s since proven her deftness at making a statement without making a big fuss. She’s also in touch with the history of the house, and Hubert de Givenchy’s silhouettes. Take her new “Mystic” bag, pictured above. Its lines are traditional and ladylike, but the soft, malleable edges make it feel easy and modern. The look is restrained, with only a few seams, but obviously expensive, with the big gold logo.
