Dyke Day L.A. Was a Sunny Celebration of Love
On Saturday, as Los Angeles prepped for its Pride festivities, hundreds gathered in Elysian Park for the 12th annual Dyke Day LA, a free, all-ages festival complete with a puppy parade, balloon toss, gym dance routines, and a drag queen story hour.
The party’s website says it’s for “dykes and allies,” but in an email to the Cut, the organizers elaborated that they want to create a space “for anyone who doesn’t resonate with celebrating their Pride at a bar, or paying to attend a Pride festivity, or wants to have their kids, their family, and friends (and their puppies) with them.” This year, they added, Pride is about “celebrating while also honoring the work that the generations before us (and many today still) put in to ensure our right to come together as a community.”
