Game of Thrones, But Make It Gucci

Instead of cradling replicas of their own heads, like they did last year, Gucci models walked the fall 2019 runway looking sewn back together, Frankenstein style. Their appendages were dipped in gold, with accessories including gilded ear lobes, gloves, face masks, and bib necklaces, like the one photographed above. It was very Game of Thrones — I could see Daenerys Targaryen wearing all of the above to battle. (And maybe with one of her going-out tops.) It was also more aggressive than past Gucci collections. Models wore giant, sharp spikes from head to toe, as well as layers of protective gear: visor hats, volleyball kneepads, gilded shin guards, eye patches, and some carried hair brushes in their hands like bludgeons. Was this fantasy? Or protection from the real world? We may not have to worry about fire-breathing dragons, but then again, you never know.
