Why StyleSnap Is Amazon’s Best Shopping Feature

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Cut (@thecut) on Oct 25, 2019 at 7:33am PDT

As intuitive as tapping-to-shop on social media has become, it has its limits: What if you love the tomato-red color of an influencer’s designer bag, but not its $3,000 price tag? Or maybe you like the concept of her outfit, but don’t think her exact blazer would work for you. Now, with Amazon’s in-app StyleSnap feature, you can use all that style inspiration to instantly generate — and shop — a batch of similar products on Amazon. And while you can use StyleSnap to find look-alike pieces for ostensibly any look you come across in an online image or in real life (by uploading a screenshot or snapping and saving a photo), many influencers have partnered with Amazon directly since the feature’s launch in June. In these cases, the influencer posts a look featuring pieces you can shop through their pre-linked StyleSnap “storefront,” plus additional suggestions.

Because we’re eager adopters of anything that makes shopping easier (and more fun), we’ve been using StyleSnap since day one — with results worthy of that rare, “wow, this actually works” feeling. And this season, we’re also featuring our own shoppable looks on the platform, courtesy of the Cut’s fashion partnerships editor, Indya Brown. To start using StyleSnap and shop Brown’s look above, grab your phone and follow the simple steps below.

Find the camera in the Amazon app.

Download the Amazon mobile app if you don’t already have it. On the main landing page, locate and click on the camera icon (at right of the search bar).

Navigate to StyleSnap and the “upload” prompt.

At the bottom on the screen, choose “StyleSnap” from the row of camera functions (see black bar). Next, click the gray button that appears on-screen: “Upload photo to find the look.”

Choose a screenshot or photo to upload.

Select the screenshot or original photo from your camera roll that you want to shop and/or find similar styles for. Then wait a few seconds for StyleSnap to analyze the image and compile relevant shopping suggestions.

Scroll through exact and/or suggested styles.

If the image you uploaded corresponds to a StyleSnap “storefront” — a selection of products pre-populated by an influencer or, in this case, the Cut, you’ll see the exact styles shown in the image pop up. Keep scrolling, and you’ll find more versions of each item in case you want to weigh your options. For any style-based image, you’ll get “inspired” results like these.

Switch up the outfit focus for more results.

Use the image thumbnails at the top of the experience to zero in on different outfit elements, such as the shoes, coat, or pants pictured. Your shopping recommendations will respond accordingly.

Use search filters to refine your results.

As with searching on Amazon normally, it’s super-helpful to take advantage of filters such as price range and Prime-shipping eligibility to narrow things down and land on exactly what you’re looking for faster. Happy shopping!
