An Excellent Mascara for Weekends

On the weekends, I like to lighten my beauty routine. I replace my foundation with tinted moisturizer with SPF and skip the blow-dryer for a simple tidy ponytail. I even prefer my lashes to be less … mascaraed. During the week, I’m looking for a little va-va-voom, but on my Saturdays and Sundays, which are usually filled with hikes and trips to the farmers market, I just want something clean and streamlined, with maybe a little length.

Vapour Beauty’s new Mesmerize Mascara delivers exactly what I want in a weekend mascara: It makes my lashes look pretty but not overly made up. Admittedly, it takes a few swipes to reach the length I want to achieve, but for the length-blessed who merely want their lashes darker, one swipe should do it.

Clean beauty had its early adapters in skin care and hair care, but other categories, like fragrance and certain kinds of makeup, have been slower to the reclaimed-wood table. Of the handful of clean mascara formulas that do exist, some work better than others, and this one gets a gold star from me. Its formula is free of petroleum and carbon black, instead using mineral pigments for a darkening effect. It also contains acacia-flower wax to condition lashes and jojoba oil to moisturize and protect them. (I’m not really one of those people who are concerned with lash protection, but I’ll take the bonus.)

Also, I know this doesn’t matter a lick, but I am drawn to the olive-green color of the tube, which I find both chic and calming. Kind of like my green bounty from the farmers market.
