Step Into the ’70s With Fendi

It may have been a dreary February day outside of the Madison Avenue Fendi store, but inside, it was as bright as an acid trip. To celebrate its Solar Dreams collection, the spring/summer 2020 season designed by Creative Director Silvia Venturini Fendi, the brand bathed the store in warm light and flooded it with bright flower designs straight out of the ’70s. Venturini Fendi defined “Solar Dreams” as “The happy feeling I get from the warmth of an Italian sunrise — that is my solar dream and the mood I wanted to transmit this season.”

The centerpiece of the new installation was a two-seater porch swing, ready to be posed upon, as Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and an adorable gray bulldog did. The mood inside the store was light and happy, full of young celebs, including one of TikTok’s biggest stars, Chase Hudson (a.k.a. Lil Huddy). The new collection marked two firsts: The first time the men and women’s collections had been showcased, and the first collection designed since Karl Lagerfeld died.

“This season was different since, while so much of Karl influenced my process, I chose to explore more feminine silhouettes and bold patterns,” Venturini Fendi told the Cut. “Flower prints is something that we don’t use so often at FENDI, so it was a new path and a way of exploring new things.” She also collaborated with Call Me by Your Name filmmaker Luca Guadagnino on prints and accessories for the men’s collection. It doesn’t get more la dolce vita than that. The full collections launch today in stores and online.
