I may be totally off the mark here, but I’m starting to get the sense that Grimes’s mom isn’t particularly keen on her daughter’s partner and father of her newborn child, Elon Musk.
On Sunday afternoon, Sandy Garossino, a former prosecutor and media commentator and also Grimes’s mother, decided to air a few grievances on Twitter. It started when Musk tweeted, “Take the red pill,” which prompted Garossino to respond: “If your partner went through a challenging pregnancy and childbirth in the last two weeks, and you were over 16 years old, would you be blaring MRA bullshit on Twitter right now?” (While red-pilling is a Matrix reference, the concept has since been adopted by right-wing groups, men’s-rights activists, and basically anyone who hates women.) She also responded to a tweet from a Canadian political consultant that said “buddy has a 3 week old baby,” correcting him: “Not yet two weeks.” She has since deleted both tweets.
Despite her current sentiments, it appears that Garossino once saw Musk in a more positive light: In 2016, long before Musk and Grimes first publicly appeared together at the Met Gala, Garossino suggested on Twitter that Musk was as great of a “visionary” as the late pioneering computer-man Steve Jobs. But, understandably, Garossino’s opinions of Musk appear to have changed in the years since, during which he’s engaged in some routine union busting, launched his career as an EDM artist, called a Thai cave diver who helped rescue trapped children a “pedo guy,” and appeared multiple times on The Joe Rogan Experience. Presumably, those incidents — plus the fact that he and her daughter started dating and conceived baby X Æ A-12 Musk — caused Garossino to sour on the man.
Meanwhile, Musk’s model mother has yet to formally weigh in on the interfamilial drama, though I’d like to imagine her most recent tweet is her official stance on the whole situation:
