Flower Power

These Loewe pumps are dizzyingly glamorous.

Jonathan Anderson’s fall 2020 collection for Loewe was all about “making an entrance” and “dressing to impress.” The show took place during Paris Fashion Week on February 28, just as the coronavirus began to shut everything down. Entrances would be hard to come by seeing that many people weren’t even leaving their homes. But in that moment, fall 2020 looked glamorous, filled with long gowns, dramatic volume, and opulent footwear like the Flower Pumps.

Attached to these elegant black kitten heels is a large, flower-shaped pearl brooch. The accessory itself is of another time — it’s rare to see someone young wearing a brooch today — but it’s a classic form of decoration: extra-ness in an object. J.W. Anderson makes the idea new again with a psychedelic swirl and a fresh purpose.
