Drum roll, please: I come bearing big news re: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who have just shared a little V-Day surprise via a spokesperson. What is it?? Well! It appears we have yet another celebrity baby on the way:
We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.
The pregnancy announcement came alongside a black-and-white photo of the couple, “taken remotely via iPad by their friend and longtime photographer, Misan Harriman,” per People. While the spokesperson did not indicate a prospective due date, Meghan’s baby bump is visible in the picture, for which she reportedly recycled a Carolina Herrera dress from her first pregnancy.
Meghan gave birth to her and Harry’s first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in May 2019. In November, she disclosed in a New York Times op-ed that she’d miscarried over the summer. “Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few,” she wrote, adding: “In being invited to share our pain, together we take the first steps toward healing.”
Shortly after the Sussexes went public, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told People that the royal family are thrilled at this development. “Her Majesty, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and the entire family are ‘delighted’ and wish them well,” the spokesperson said of the Queen, Prince Philip, and Prince Charles, specifically.
According to E!, Meghan and Harry have been keeping the news to themselves because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and have mostly been laying low in their Santa Barbara home. They have also been busy building out their media dominion — Netflix! Podcasting! — in their new, non-senior-royal life, and generally look pretty happy these days. And we are happy for them! Per usual, our largest and most sincere congrats on the forthcoming bébé.
