When Silvia Venturini Fendi was designing her namesake brand’s spring 2021 collection — her last women’s collection before stepping down — it was the middle of the pandemic, and she was stuck at home like everyone else in Italy. Naturally, she was inspired by her domestic space. Clothes were printed with images of windows — her only view to the outside world during lockdown — and she used light, airy fabrics, to give the impression of curtains blowing in the breeze. She also incorporated delicate linens into the collection, like the ones passed down from grandmothers to mothers to daughters. Above, you can see how she transformed something that looks like a white silk furniture cover into an elegant veil for a handbag. An orange crochet raffia Nano Baguette bag peeks out from underneath, but the combined effect makes it look as light as a feather.
