Would You Like to Hold Joe Jonas’s Hand?

I know what you’re thinking: What would it feel like to hold Joe Jonas’s hand? Well, I come bearing good news: There are now 250 exact replicas of Joe Jonas’s right hand and you could be the proud owner of one of them.

Lest your mind go astray, Jonas has replicated his hand for business purposes ONLY. It’s part of a brand partnership with Expedia, which is desperate for people to use its service now that post-pandemic travel is becoming a reality. As part of Expedia’s Helping Hands campaign, Jonas let the travel-booking company create a 3-D-printed model of his right hand to be used as “a travel companion you can trust,” per the campaign website. Yes, they want you to bring the fake hand on a plane.

Some details about the hand: It’s made to scale, it’s signed and hand-numbered by Jonas, and it “features custom artwork,” which I think just means it has the Expedia logo on it. If that sounds like something you want, you can enter for the chance to get one of the remaining 249 hands — I already entered to get one — which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Unfortunately, I am now obsessed with the hand and need to know everything about it. Why the right hand and not the left? Will people actually travel with it? Will it pass through TSA or will you have to check it?

Here are just some of the ways I could make use of the hand:

  • A jewelry holder
  • A table centerpiece
  • A submission to the MoMA
  • No-contact payment
  • To occasionally high-five
  • To hold in times of sorrow
  • To pet my dog while I’m working and she needs attention
  • To absolutely not bring on a plane with me, are you serious?
