Greetings, have you come prepared to talk about Grimes, communism, and artificial intelligence? No? Too bad, we’re doing it anyway. In a recent video posted on TikTok and subsequently shared all over Twitter, the singer offered some thoughts on communism, artificial intelligence, and how the two could work together. Grimes, please. I am so weary.
“I have a proposition for the communists,” she starts. “So, typically most of the communists I know are not big fans of AI. But, if you think about it, AI is actually the fastest path to communism.” Well, are you thinking about it?
“So, if implemented correctly, AI could actually, theoretically, solve for abundance,” she continued. “Like, we could totally get to a situation where nobody has to work, everybody is provided for with a comfortable state of being, comfortable living.” Hmm, totally.
“AI could automate all the farming, weed out systematic corruption, thereby bringing us as close as possible to genuine equality,” she continued. “So basically, everything that everybody loves about communism but without the collective farm.” I feel like I accidentally walked into the wrong class, and now I’ve been here too long and am too nervous to leave.
She ends the video with something we can all, maybe, agree on: “’Cause, let’s be real, enforced farming is really not a vibe.” It really is not!
If it helps at all, the background in the TikTok appears to be from Japanese manga Berserk and says, “We are all starring in a story with no ending in sight.” Does that help?
If anything, the video shouldn’t come as a surprise. Grimes has previously talked about AI and how “it may be the end of humanity” but she’s “for it, I guess.” The Æ in her baby’s name (X Æ A-Xii) is either the elven spelling for “AI” or “love,” maybe both. Also, she allegedly quoted Stalin in her high-school yearbook.
Responding to a comment on TikTok, she said it was a joke, adding “but maybe the technocrats and communists could get along.” Maybe, Grimes. Maybe. Anyway, I will be thinking about this video for the rest of the day.
