gone sale-ing

19 Things on Sale You’ll Actually Want to Buy: From J.Crew to SkinCeuticals

You may have noticed some posts from our friends at the Strategist on the Cut. They’ll be dropping in every now and again, sharing their expertise on the basics you don’t have time to research and the weird and wonderful things you don’t yet know you need.

It looks like the big week of beauty sales we’ve been living through is rolling into the weekend, as we’ve found lots of deep discounts on several Strategist favorites in our end-of-week sweep. There’s a makeup melting cleansing oil that busts blackheads, our beauty columnist’s favorite barely there sunscreen, and a heavily researched (and rarely on sale) vitamin-C serum. And as always, if you want even more deals sent straight to your inbox, sign up for our email newsletter.

Macy’s is taking up to 60 percent off select items across all categories until Sunday, bringing this stylish little spice rack — complete with 18 spices and refillable glass spice jars — down to just $42. You’ll also receive five years of free spice refills with purchase, meaning it’ll pretty much pay for itself.

Another exceptional deal, this mid-century-inspired bed frame is made from solid rubberwood and has a rich walnut finish.

This modern office chair is bound to be much more comfortable than the dining chair you’ve been using since last spring. (We also like that it looks stolen from Don Draper’s California apartment in Mad Men.)

$199

Apple AirPods Pro dropped back down to $180 this week, after hovering around $190 for most of this month. The price will inevitably jump back up, so as we say: Don’t dilly dally.

For a limited time, SkinStore is taking 25 percent off select moisturizers and oil cleansers with code HYDRATE25. That would include this cult-y Japanese cleansing oil that our resident beauty columnist, Rio Viera-Newton, first flagged for us back in 2018. It’s a favorite in her friends’ skin-care group chat for those with dry, sensitive, or blackhead-prone skin.

Skinstore is also taking 25 percent off select retinol and anti-aging products, no code required. Buzz Bissinger told us this oil-infused cleansing balm “builds into a nice lather” and leaves his skin feeling “both clean and invigorated.”

This beginner-friendly retinol serum from First Aid Beauty has a fairly low level of retinol (0.25 percent) and contains hyaluronic acid and aloe vera. Rio says it “moisturizes and soothes” her skin while gently exfoliating.

Madewell is taking 20 percent off nearly sitewide through the weekend — exclusively for Madewell Insiders. (Membership is free, and you can create an account here.) You can’t go wrong with a pair of the brand’s Perfect Vintage Straight Jeans, which have a generous rise and straight leg. These ones are still in stock in sizes 23 to 33, along with tall and petite lengths.

A fall-ready layer to be paired with the jeans above. It’s also available in black.

Dermstore is taking 15 percent off rarely-on-sale SkinCeuticals items with code SKINC15. The discount on the brand’s vitamin C serum isn’t a ton, but the formula’s claim to fame (and a key selling point over cheaper options) is its well-researched efficacy. Its stable formulation delivers all the benefits of vitamin C (fighting free radicals, reducing inflammation, fading hyperpigmentation, and brightening skin) without causing redness and sensitivity.

Spotted in Nordstrom Rack’s reliably good sale bins, this is an excellent deal on a linen-cotton blend duvet cover in a soothing dove gray. It comes with matching shams, too.

Today’s the last day to take an extra 50 percent off select sale at J.Crew with code SALETIME. We like the dropped shoulder, cropped fit, and flattering boatneck on this cashmere sweater.

An Issey Miyake–esque shoulder bag for a non–Issey Miyake price.

We’ve long been fans of Slip’s silk pillowcases, eye masks, and hair ties, which are gentler on hair and skin than ones made from cotton or polyester. This sleep set includes all three of our favorites for a little more than just one pillowcase.

This wall-mounted cane-headboard one is only available in twin size, which makes it ideal for any design-obsessed college student. You could also easily put two together for queen- and king-size beds, if you’re a design-obsessed adult.

In case you missed it, Supergoop is taking 20 percent off sitewide with code SUPER20 through Tuesday, September 21. IWe’ve never tried a Supergoop product we didn’t like, but the brand’s best-selling Unseen Sunscreen is one of our reliable favorites. According to our beauty columnist Rio Viera-Newton, it has a weightless, velvety finish, and “blends into skin beautifully” without any pilling.

Also through Tuesday, September 21, Tatcha is taking 20 percent off sitewide with code FF2021. According to one doctor we spoke to, this lightweight moisturizer is safe for all skin types, and contains pore-shrinking Japanese wild rose and skin-brightening algae.

End Clothing is still taking an extra 20 percent off select sale styles. There are 7,379 items to sort through, to be exact, so we’ll make it easy for you: These nearly-half-off Chuck 70 sneakers are one of our favorite Converse styles, and are still in stock in most US men’s sizes from 3 to 11.

And finally, here’s an ultra-lightweight under-$15 hip pack from Columbia. Whether you intend to wear it as streetwear or hiking gear, it’s a steal.

The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments, rolling luggage, pillows for side sleepers, natural anxiety remedies, and bath towels. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
