On Friday, TMZ reported that Zayn Malik was charged with four criminal offenses of harassment after a fight he had with Yolanda Hadid, the mother of his partner, Gigi. According to documents obtained by the outlet, Zayn called Yolanda a “fucking Dutch slut” and told her to “stay away from [my] fucking daughter” during a confrontation on September 29 at Zayn and Gigi’s house in Pennsylvania. The documents reportedly also claim he “shoved [Yolanda] into a dresser causing mental anguish and physical pain.”
On Thursday, TMZ reported that Yolanda had accused Zayn of striking her, prompting him to deny the allegations: “I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid, and for the sake of my daughter, I decline to give any further details, and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move toward healing these family issues in private,” he told the outlet. According to TMZ, the court documents also say he denies any physical contact, and court officials say he pled no contest to the charges.
Zayn also posted a Notes app screenshot on Twitter on Thursday expressing a similar sentiment. “I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago,” he wrote, presumably referring to Gigi and her mother.
His post continued, “This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been ‘leaked’ to the press.”
Gigi and Zayn have been dating on and off since 2015, and their daughter Khai was born last year, seven months after the two confirmed they were back together in February. However, in the wake of the reports about the altercation, many outlets have reported that the couple has split. Neither Gigi nor Zayn have yet commented on reports of their breakup, though Gigi’s rep issued a statement in response to the allegations that said, “Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time.”
According to TMZ, Zayn is also being charged for harassing Gigi after apparently telling her over the phone to “strap on some fucking balls and defend your partner against your fucking mother in my house.” Hadid was reportedly in Paris at the time. He was also charged with harassing a security guard who was present during the confrontation. Zayn allegedly yelled at him, “Get the fuck out of my fucking house, copper.”
After pleading no contest to at least one of the charges on Wednesday, Zayn was fined and put on a 360-day probation period. He’ll be required to complete an anger management class and a domestic violence program and is forbidden from contacting Yolanda or the security guard.
