Put on your dad’s tie and copious amounts of black eyeliner because Avril Lavigne says she wants to make a “Sk8r Boi” movie. During a recent podcast interview, Lavigne said the forthcoming 20th anniversary of the song, which debuted in 2002, has prompted a resurgence of “Sk8r Boi” love. “A lot of people have been asking me to play this song on some TV shows, so it keeps getting brought back up and people will always reference it to me,” Lavigne told iHeartRadio’s She is the Voice podcast. “And so, I’m actually going to turn this song into a film … and take it to the next level.” Next level, indeed.

What would a “Sk8r Boi” movie entail exactly? Well, a boy and and a girl, of course. Could I make it any more obvious? Other than that, Lavigne hasn’t given many more details. Will she be writing it or will she simply be a producer? Who will be the titular sk8r boi? How will they make a feature-length film of this three-minute song? Just kidding. I have no doubt they’ll be able to turn a couple verses and a chorus into a 90-minute movie as Hollywood can make a film out of anything. Remember Battleship?

In case you need a refresher, Lavigne also explained the inspiration behind the song she wrote when she was 17: “The skater boy is in love with the preppy girl but like she’s too cool for him, but then five years from now she’s feeding the baby and she’s all alone and she wishes she would have followed her heart and not tried to live up to society’s expectations.” Sounds like a movie log line to me! Fingers crossed this means she will be adapting other songs from her oeuvre into movies. The world deserves a “Complicated” movie.
