In recent days, reports have swirled that resident actor-philosopher Andrew Garfield and model Alyssa Miller have broken up, with a source telling People that the couple separated last month but “remain friendly.” But things got a little more confusing on Monday, when Miller appeared to shut down speculation with a cryptic Instagram post. “If you must gossip at least use a cute photo,” she wrote, alongside a (indeed cute) photo of her and Garfield, adding, “Lol love you AG.” Posting your alleged ex to social media with a caption that says “love you” is … remaining friendly, I guess. But what does it mean? Is this very beautiful man single or not?
Garfield and Miller were first linked in November 2021 after they were spotted holding hands in New York City. While the two have had high-profile relationships in the past — Garfield dated actress Emma Stone and singer Rita Ora, while Miller went on sweaty gym dates with Jake Gyllenhaal and was briefly married to musician Cam Avery — they kept a low profile about their relationship before making their first public appearance at the 2022 SAG Awards. Garfield has been outspoken about keeping his dating life private. “I’m not in the public eye to a great degree because I’ve designed it that way for myself,” he told Bustle last year, defending his right to be “ordinary,” “sorrowful,” and sometimes “stupid.”
Outside of Miller’s very vague IG post — which apparently “weirded out” Garfield’s friends — neither party has publicly commented on the split. It’s all rather confusing, but should Garfield need some perspective about how romantic love “creates a lot of problems in our modern world,” he need only look inward.
