What Is Snooki Doing in the Pennsylvania Senate Race?

If you’ve ever wondered what the intersection of politics, Twitter, and Cameo would look like, wonder no more. Last week, current Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman brought all three together when he tweeted a Cameo from Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, of Jersey Shore fame, calling out his opponent, Mehmet Oz.

“I heard that you moved from New Jersey to Pennsylvania to look for a new job, and personally I don’t know why anybody would wanna leave New Jersey, cause it’s like the best place ever and we’re all hot messes,” Snooki said in the video, echoing Fetterman’s continued attacks on Oz, whose residency in Pennsylvania has been questioned. “I want to say best of luck to you. I know you’re away from home and you’re in a new place, but Jersey will not forget you.” And then, there’s the kicker: “And don’t worry! Because you’ll be back home in Jersey soon, this is only temporary. So good luck, you got this, and Jersey loves you!”

Naturally, I have many questions. Did Fetterman’s team actually pay $300 for Snooki to record this Cameo? Or, as a political campaign, did they have to meet Snooki’s $3,500 fee for business Cameos? Did Snooki know she was entering a political race? Does she even support John Fetterman? Luckily, some of these have been answered. According to reporter Sam Stein, Fetterman’s campaign paid a whopping $393.75 for the Cameo, and Snooki seems to have either been unaware of the context or not cared. She responded favorably to the clip on Twitter, making fun of trolls questioning her involvement in politics, but she hasn’t made any major political statements about the race specifically. Meanwhile, Dr. Oz attempted to hit back at Fetterman by releasing a “Missing” graphic of his opponent on a milk carton. But somehow, the face on the milk carton doesn’t quite have the same zing as a personal message from Snooki.
