The U.S. Open is back in New York, and this time it’s bittersweet. Earlier this month, Serena Williams announced that she would be retiring from tennis after the tournament. She defeated her first-round opponent, Danka Kovinić, in front of a record-breaking crowd on Monday and then her second-round opponent, the number-two seeded Anett Kontaveit, on Wednesday.
Williams is turning out a star-studded crowd, including the likes of Anna Wintour, Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Zendaya. Since everyone knows that tennis is the most fashionable sport — just ask Miu Miu or Rothy’s — here’s what the celebs wore to cheer on Williams.
The real star of any Williams crowd is her daughter, Olympia. The 4-year-old’s sparkly outfit matched her mom’s, and her white beads were reminiscent of her mother’s early-career hairstyle. Williams’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, wore an all-black look including a sweatshirt from S by Serena.
At Williams’s first game of the tournament, Billie Jean King wore a bright-pink jacket, matching pink glasses, and pearls. During a ceremony following the game, the fellow tennis trailblazer told the story of meeting Williams for the first time when she was just 6 years old.
On Monday, Anna Wintour was glamorous as ever, wearing a red floral dress and big sunglasses.
Then, on Wednesday, Wintour wore this blue dress and Chanel sunglasses.
At Williams’s first match, Bella Hadid had a lot of fun, cheering in a denim corset and a cropped white button-up. She was accompanied by Offset and her boyfriend, Mark Kalman.
Gigi Hadid joined her sister for the next match, wearing a red jumpsuit and sunglasses.
Zendaya made an appearance on Wednesday, going with a simple black turtleneck that she wore with a skirt, black boots, and glasses.
Queen Latifah went with classic tennis-white pants but showed her love for Williams with her G.O.A.T. long sleeve shirt at the first game of the tournament.
Venus Williams was also spotted in the crowd, wearing a tennis visor and green sweatshirt. The siblings will be playing Doubles this tournament.
Venus and Serena’s mom, Oracene Price, also viewed Wednesday’s match, weaing Gucci and S by Serena.
Ashley Graham made sure to document in a paisley top and midi skirt.
Laverne Cox wore this elaborate black number to cheer for Williams.
Huma Abedin was chic and comfortable in this effortless polka-dot dress.
Gayle King wore a white dress and colorful sneakers to give a speech in honor of Williams at the match and introduce Billie Jean King.
Hugh Jackman and Anthony Anderson must have coordinated beforehand, both looking sharp in navy-blue suits.
Coming back for the following match, Anderson wore a blazer and red patterned pants. Sharp.
Spike Lee looked casual and cool, wearing a baseball cap and a shirt honoring another sports legend, Jackie Robinson.
Lee returned to the next game in a striped sports coat, cap, and white pants.
Gladys Knight also wore a baseball cap to the Open. On Monday, she wore a black vest over a long-sleeved white collared shirt.
Dionne Warwick wore a matching light-blue sweatsuit to Wednesday’s match. It’s coastal-grandmother casual.

Anika Noni Rose went full glam, wearing a shiny blazer over a corset.
