These Iconic Shoes Have Been Classic Since Forever

To own a black-and-white checkerboard pair of Vans platform slip-ons, is to own a slice of cool. There’s something so effortless yet intentional about Vans Classics. They can define a look or add the subtle-yet-essential finishing touch to one. Either way, the brand has always had a distinct point of view. Classic since forever (well, 1966), beyond comfortable (like wearing slippers), and cooler than ever before (not just for skateboarders), Vans are a staple — no matter what you’re up to, what you’re into, or what your style is.

Whether you’re styling Slip-Ons, Sk8-His, Old Skools, or Authentics, each Vans Classic has a persona. And with it, a distinct — yet malleable — aesthetic. Aside from modern colorways, cutting-edge collabs (i.e. Sandy Liang, KENZO, Supreme, and more), and spiffy tweaks here and there (hello, Comfy Cush technology), Vans Classics have stayed consistent and reliable. Vans’ loyal fanbase (and maybe even streetwear culture at large) demands it.

A black-and-white checkerboard pair of Slip-Ons are the epitome of classic Vans and look equally iconic dressed up or down. Make them the star of the show by styling them with solids. Or, have a little fun with pattern play (keeping your color palette neutral) for a bold look we love day or night.

Perhaps the easiest to style, Authentics can do no wrong. With a lean silhouette and simple design, they’re unobtrusive. But of course if you’re in the mood to stand out, a bright shade like cherry makes quite a statement. Perfect for wearing with trousers, dresses, skirts, and even suits, this classic style deserves a permanent place in your wardrobe — if for nothing else but its sheer versatility.

No Fashion Girl wardrobe is complete without high-tops. Sk8-His have a way of transforming nearly any outfit into an instant success and help make getting dressed fun. They’re a streetwear must-have and hit the right style notes whether worn with top-to-bottom leather or an organza gown.

If there’s one thing Old Skools are, it’s multitalented. The chemistry between them and, well, anything they’re styled with, is electric. Sure, they’re effortless with jeans, but it’s a downright power move when they’re worn with a saturated, full-length dress. It’s the kind of look that oozes confidence; it’s unexpected, it’s a tad quirky, and yes, it’s undeniably cool. Wear them with your joggers, your sweats, your mini skirts, and even your gowns (the ones in our closets aren’t seen nearly enough) — this style only gets better with each wear.
