Blake Lively surprised fans last week when she said she wouldn’t be going to the Met Gala, saying she’d be watching from her couch. The mom of four has been a staple on the gala carpet since 2008, and she was also close with Karl Lagerfeld — the designer whose work was the inspiration for this year’s gala — attending with him in 2011. Last year, as co-host for the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” theme, she wore a pink metallic gown that transformed into an enormous turquoise gown in an ode to the Statue of Liberty that people talked about for days after.
Lively did recently have a baby, which may have had something to do with her absence. On Monday, while her peers got ready, Lively revealed at least one of her Met day activities, posting a photo of herself in a bathroom pumping breast milk with the caption, “First Monday in May.” But it’s also possible that she chose soccer over the fashion world’s Super Bowl? The Daily Mail claims that Lively is expected to join her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for an open-top bus parade in Wrexham, England, on Tuesday. Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham’s soccer team, Wrexham AFC, in 2020, and the team just won the National League. To each their own priorities, I guess!
