Met Gala 2023: All the Looks

The Met Gala may be over, but the discourse has just begun. Stars like Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Penélope Cruz, Phoebe Bridgers, Emma Chamberlain, Kate Moss, Rita Ora, Doja Cat, Pedro Pascal, and more were a few that stood out to us. The theme for the 2023 Met Gala was all about honoring the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who is known for his work across the industry but especially for his time at Chanel. That’s not to say it’s a theme without controversy (just like many past themes the Met Gala has chosen) since Lagerfeld was, according to the Associated Press, “a self-proclaimed ‘big mouth’” who was fatphobic and anti-immigrant, and spoke out against the Me Too movement and sexual-assault survivors. He was, however, a big fan of cats, especially his feline Choupette.

Who Was at the Met Gala 2023?

Let’s start with our favorite look of the night: Rihanna, of course. Attendees included Naomi Campbell in Chanel Couture; Janelle Monáe in Thom Browne; Doja Cat in Oscar de la Renta; Kim Kardashian in Schiaparelli; Billie Eilish in Simone Rocha; Dua Lipa in Chanel Couture and Tiffany & Co.; Bad Bunny in Jacquemus; and Florence Pugh in Valentino and Tiffany & Co. Also Salma Hayek, Olivia Rodrigo, Serena Williams, and WNBA star Brittney Griner. Gisele Bündchen walked the red carpet (sans Tom Brady, of course), and Paris Hilton made her Met Gala debut this year, which is good since she knows a thing or two about high-maintenance gowns.

Ice Spice was also there, invited as Vogue’s guest, and wore custom Balmain. Pete Davidson attended, and so did his ex, Kim Kardashian, who was joined by sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenner. Will there be a run-in? If so, Bad Bunny, Kendall’s rumored boo, will surely be there to smooth things over. There were over 200 additional celebrities there, and we have them all below.

Who Wasn’t at the Met Gala?

Noteworthy people who have come before but didn’t attend this year: Blake Lively, Timothée Chalamet, Lady Gaga, Zendaya, the rest of the Jenner-Kardashian clan (Kourtney Kardashian, Travis Barker, Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Khloé Kardashian). We were also hoping Choupette would walk the red carpet, but, alas, that was not the case.

What Happened on the 2023 Met Gala Red Carpet?

To give you some highlights: There were multiple pregnancy announcements (Karlie Kloss and Serena Williams); two Choupettes (Doja Cat and Jared Leto); and a couple of outfit changes (Cardi B and Janelle Monáe.) Also: Bad Bunny went backless; Lil Nas X wore all silver and not much else; Dua Lipa wore vintage Chanel, channeling Karl’s bride; and Rihanna arrived fashionably late per usual.
