My greatest fear (something being in my suitcase when it’s not supposed to be) has been realized by Gigi Hadid. Cayman Marl Road, a local news outlet in the Cayman Islands, has reported that Hadid was arrested for possession of marijuana during a recent trip there. Renae Stampp, a writer for the outlet who broke the news, wrote that “ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja were found.” Ganja paraphernalia was also reportedly found in the suitcase of the friend traveling with Hadid, influencer and model Leah Nicole McCarthy. Stampp continued: “The quantities were relatively small and were seemingly for personal consumption.”
Hadid and McCarthy were both reportedly transported to the prisoner-detention center after their luggage was searched by customs officials at Owen Roberts International Airport and were eventually released on bail. The two allegedly appeared in court on July 12 and were charged, and though each person pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000, Cayman Marl Road reported “no conviction was recorded.”
But that didn’t seem to hamper Hadid’s girls’ trip — she and McCarthy posted poolside thirst traps at Palm Heights, a hotel with a cult following among downtown New Yorkers, just days later. A representative for Hadid clarified that the weed she was carrying was legal, telling E! News: “Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license. It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”
So … she technically didn’t do anything wrong? Today she posted a slideshow with images from the trip with the caption: “All’s well that ends well.” As far as we are concerned, enjoy your trip, queen.
